1950s Vintage Double Wedding Ring Quilt Vest Sz M

$395.00
sold out

This one-of-a-kind vest was crafted from an authentic mid-century American Double Wedding Ring quilt, originally hand-pieced between the late 1940s and early 1950s.

The quilt’s signature interlocking arcs form a flowing, sculptural pattern across the body, built from hundreds of small fabric pieces cut and sewn by hand. A lively mix of feedsack prints, shirtings, and dress cottons—polka dots, plaids, florals, and geometrics—reflects the resourcefulness of post-war quiltmaking and the maker’s eye for balance and color.

Once made for warmth and everyday use, this quilt has been thoughtfully reimagined into a modern vest silhouette. Natural variations in piecing, stitching, and wear are preserved as part of the textile’s history, giving the garment depth, character, and a sense of time.

No two sections are the same. This piece exists only once.

Details:

  • Made from an original vintage quilt (c. 1945–1955)

  • Traditional Double Wedding Ring quilt pattern

  • Hand-pieced cotton scraps, feedsack and garment fabrics

  • One-of-a-kind construction

  • Thoughtfully reworked into a modern vest silhouette

This vest is part of Quinnie John’s ongoing work to honor historic American quilts—preserving the craftsmanship, ingenuity, and stories embedded in every stitch.

Pricing Rationale

(why this piece is priced as it is)

  • Authentic vintage quilt top — constructed from a genuine mid-century Double Wedding Ring quilt top (c. late 1940s–1950s), not reproduction fabric

  • Pattern significance — Double Wedding Ring is one of the most technically demanding and recognizable American quilt patterns, requiring precise curved piecing

  • Labor already embedded — hundreds of hand-cut and hand-pieced fabric segments were completed long before this garment existed

  • One-of-a-kind textile — the specific fabric combinations and ring layout cannot be replicated

  • Practical reconstruction choices — paired with a modern lining to ensure durability, comfort, and longevity in a wearable garment

  • Balanced pricing position — priced below outerwear and hooded pieces to reflect both the quilt’s age and the vest’s lighter construction

  • Slow, intentional process — individually sourced, evaluated, and reworked as part of a small, considered collection
